A Family Tradition
for Over 25 Years!
From its modest start as a convenience store nearly 25 years ago, El Tejavan has grown into two full-service dining establishments along the I-40 corridor in Amarillo, Texas. Today, it is celebrated as the Panhandle’s premier destination for authentic Mexican cuisine.

The journey began when Jose and Patricia Murguia started selling tacos and tortas to earn extra money from their store on Grand Street. They soon added a front porch and transformed the space into a restaurant, naming it El Tejavan, which fittingly means "the front porch" in Spanish. Since then, the Murguia family and their extended relatives have been delighting both locals and travelers with homemade family recipes from their native city of Guadalajara.
